The Continental trade group ECOWAS is nearly the size of the US. However, it is richer minerally, naturally (biodiverse-wise), culturally, and socially. In the past few days alone NATO has continuously targeting the population of Libya for extermination. Hospitals, schools, market centers, private homes, hotels and Mosques are being targeted, resulting to massive loss of innocent lives including school children, pregnant women in hospitals, elderly people, and property built from generation to generation destroyed. As an advocate organization dedicated towards democratic good governance, human rights, rule of law, freedom and human dignity, the Hugo Chavez International Foundation for Peace, Friendship and Solidarity (HCI-FPFS) denounces in the strongest terms NATO’s mindless acts of terror and cowardly crusade attacks against the people of Libya, and we offer our sincere condolences to the families of those killed and to the African people and people of African descent everywhere. So far, 81 (eighty-one) civilians have been killed in four days of NATO’s barbaric aggression and 217 wounded. Humanity is witnessing a spiral of unprecedented aggression and barbaric attacks characterized by brutal terrorism that have targeted the Libyan population. The tragedy of the situation only goes to vindicate President Hugo Chavez position that, “to protect the Libyan population does not required bombs, cruise missiles, depleted uranium and other weapons of mass destruction”. NATO is embarked upon committing heinous crimes, war crimes and crimes against humanity, which can only be compared to the holocaust tragedy unleashed in Europe by the Nazis forces during the Second World War. President Hugo Chavez is on record to endorse the African Union’s position on the situation in Libya, and has preferred a negotiated peace settlement against the current NATO’s mindless acts of terror and crusade attacks. The Hugo Chavez International Foundation for Peace, Friendship and Solidarity (HCI-FPFS) holds the belief that the African Union (AU) is the only legitimate institution, and not NATO or Arab League, to execute United Nations Security Council decisions on any African members-state of the United Nations. Lives of innocent human beings are so valuable that this holocaust campaign against Libya should not have occurred in the first place. No sane- thinking person and no civilized society will endorsed such mindless acts of terrorism and gruesome attacks. The continual crusade attacks and barbaric aggression, killing of thousands of civilians are criminal acts enough to prick the conscience of the United Nations Security Council in New York, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, United Nations Human Rights Commission and other international instruments that claimed to advocate respect for humanity, to stop NATO aggression and terrorism of Libya. NATO has outlived its relevance since the collapse of the former Soviet Union in 1991. Today, the alliance has debased itself to nothing but an unholy alliance of monsters and barbarians in the 21st century. International humanitarian Law prohibits attacks which are indiscriminate or which cause disproportionate loss of civilian lives. We urge NATO to uphold its obligations under international Law, and hold accountable those commanders in chiefs and their surrogates’ war criminals, responsible for violations of human rights and international humanitarian Law.
