Self-
Determination 101
*To get from one place to another,
you must GO (move towards) there:

*To become anything,
you must first BE (embody to some degree)
that:

We in the African Centered / Pan-African
Nationalist Community can not just talk of and
hope for liberation, self-determination and
sovereignty for some time in the future, we must
be these (what we intend to become) in the
NOW and then grow beyond all contradictions.

The founding of the African Community Centers for
Unity and Self-Determination in 2003 represents a
bold step towards self-determination that continues
today. Starting in 2004 and each year thereafter,
we have participated in the nomination and election
of members to our Unity Council to provide critical
leadership in our drive to put in place systems and
an infrastructure that give us the permanent
(intergenerational) capacity to have greater control
over what happens to us as a people.

You are being asked to participate. Please consider
nominating someone for our upcoming Unity
Council election. - As a member of the African
(Black) Community of Metro Atlanta, you have the
right to nominate and to be nominated for Unity
Council election. The attached nomination form
includes all the instructions you will need.

This is your opportunity to help build the unity we so
desperately need. The single mission of the African
Community Center is to build and maintain a
permanent system of unity for all of our people.
This must include YOU!

A Unity Calendar for
our Community:

What would it mean if all or most of
our progressive African (Black)
organizations and institutions all used
the same online calendar to post their
events and to learn of events being
sponsored by others?
- This would be powerful for our
Community!!!

Functional Unity Calendar: We are building
a listing of community events dedicated to
informing, encouraging and empowering the
African (Black) Community of Atlanta and a
few other cities. The Functional Unity
Calendar will only include activity and events
of a positive nature for our Community and
People. - Click here to view the Functional
Unity Calendar(s).

Add Your Event: You are encouraged to add
your positive events to the Functional Unity
Calendar. It's simple. Just fill out a short
form and submit. Your event will be added to
the calendar within 24 hours. * We reserve
the right to reject and/or delete event
submissions that we know or learn are not
positive for the community. Click here to

Meeting a real need; Building a Council of African Elders for our Community:
Greetings Family,
We need to quickly form a strong support team of sisters and brothers to give a
focused effort to building and supporting a Council of African Elders for Metro
Atlanta. This need not be a large team but it must be firmly committed to this
specific work.
If you are interested in serving on this team, click link and complete the short form:
http://www.unity4power.org/eldertaem.html.
If you know someone in the community you strongly feel would be interested in this work and
would be an asset to this team, speak with them and forward this information or have them call
the office at 404-344-5454.
Substantial foundational work has already taken place for this effort. Review/study information at
this link for the specifics:
http://www.unity4power.org/eldercouncil.html.
The success of this effort is absolutely necessary as we strengthen the African Community for
self-reliance and power. None of us can sit on the sideline on this one.

2011 Unity Council Elections

We have elected four new dynamic members of our
community to serve on the Unity Council of the African
Community Centers for the next three years. The four
successful candidates are Sundiata Kweku Aya, Noni Bennett,
Bobby Jackson and
Nisa Shabazz. - Stanley Olatunji Cotton
and Ras Marvin will serve as alternates for one year and
would be in place to fill any vacancies on the Unity Council.
Our new Council Members will be formally introduced to the
Community at our events in October. They will take their seats
on the Unity Council in January 2012.

We take this opportunity to thank all the candidates for their
participation. Some of them will no doubt be on next years' ballot.

359 total votes were given for the ten (10) candidates. The vote totals for
each candidate is available upon request.

Our Community is to be commended for coming together to make this years'
