About Salim
Salim has been sharing the joy of storytelling
since 2001. His repertoire includes traditional
folktales from the deep South, West Africa,
and the Carribbean. Salim also writes many
of the tales in his repertoire. What makes his
style unique is his incorporation of music and
dance in every tale. Whether it’s a traditional
folktale or and original, the audience can
expect to sing, dance and feel the spirit the
African drum. In addition to storytelling, Salim
is also a dancer who has performed
with Manga African Dance Inc. He also writes and performs original
spoken word poetry. Currently Salim is an active djembe drum player
for the Atlanta based Sankonscious Community Drum and Dance
Ensemble.
“When I say crick, you say
crack!”
A storytime with Salim is an invitation
to sing and dance. Both children and
adults are welcome to sing along as
Salim (aka The Barefoot Sage) weaves
a catchy song into the text. It could
be a spiritual, a Caribbean folk song or
even a funky soul classic by Earth,
Wind & Fire. For adults It’s a taste of nostalgia. For children it’s a
learning experience through music as well as through folktales.
